Being a Man

Challenge

Engaging men and around voluntary medical male circumcision - and actually getting men and adolescent boys to consider the procedure - is among the biggest challenges that community health workers face in Zimbabwe. Khanga Rue was asked to design a digital tool that could help CHWs increase the % of men who signed up to the procedure.

Outcome

Khanga Rue designed the “Being a Man” mobile experience, an innovative multi-media content experience for men, boys, and parents that is carried by CHWs. The platform is customized to different male audiences and allows men to navigate through topics based on their own needs, and their own health journeys. In addition to SRH, it also covers mental health, drug & alcohol use disorder, general wellness, and non-communicable diseases.

Approach

Through a human centred approach that involved both clients and community health workers, Khanga Rue discovered that to succeed in VMMC & HIV health with men, we needed to engage them holistically, across a broad spectrum of needs that they felt were not being met.
